How to work from home: There has never been a better time to start a business from home. The Internet makes it a low-cost (i.e., low-risk), high-potential route.
Bear in mind that the how to work from home market is full of scams. Never mind the "stuff envelopes" and "telemarketing" so-called opportunities. Don't just surf on the web.
Use it to:
Imagine how proud you will be to tell friends and relatives how you are making a living from the internet without ever having to set foot outside your house!
The question is...how? First...
.... I have some bad news for you :-( Google does a lot of research and they have found that the average visitor to a website will return to it on average 7 times before buying anything even if your product or solution to their problem suits their needs exactly and your price is excellent.
Keep this information in mind no matter what kind of online business you eventually get into.
People just don't trust, but don't be afraid...
The good news is that there is an easy solution: email marketing. Visitors to sites are encouraged to leave their email addresses so they could be sent free stuff. The central idea here is that they are giving the website owner permission to visit them through their inbox! Done properly, this builds incredible trust very quickly.
This is a great way to get around the awful 7 visit barrier mentioned above.
Most websites have opt-in forms to get people to leave their email address in exchange for a freebie of some sort like a free ebook, report or video. Forms like this one are in common use. They worked for a while, but people quickly got tired of free reports, ebooks and so on.
The minute they see these little boxes, they scramble for the back button. A company named Leadpages changed the whole process.
They suggest that your freebie not be an ebook or report. Instead, they suggest a blueprint, resource or small set of digital tools that the average visitor might find useful. People want something useful and short.
People want instructions, how to and so on. The best example I have seen for something like this was a Youtube video on how to build a picnic table. The instructions were very good.
At the end, he asked people to swap their email address for a simple, 1 page PDF list of materials they would need to bring to the lumber yard to build their own picnic table. The idea worked great.
People want something simple like a plan, a blueprint or a simple list. This is what Leadpages teaches you how to do.
And now, for the real magic. Instead of a little plain, boring opt-in form like the one above, a company named LeadPages introduced a whole new ball game. If you visited a winter vacation website, would you be more tempted to fill in a plain little form like the one above or the Leadpages example below?
Uh-huh, I thought so. Remember that all these squeeze pages open in a full screen representation like this.
The next example was created by someone who has a website dealing with comic books. Beautiful, isn't it?
The one below is one of their top performers that gets a really good click through rate.
Anything can be changed with a couple of mouse clicks. Background images, styles of boxes, which information is asked for and so on.
This one is my personal favorite and gives me a great CTR. Give it a moment to load the video. You can change the video to anything you like. Imagine a gardening site with flowers waving in the wind, an aircraft site with airplanes floating above the clouds or ... well.. you get the idea.
Most people are not aware of the 7 visitor phenomenon that Google found and it kills their dream of independence and freedom. They work and work to build a great site, they get traffic and little money comes in because they are not aware of and dealing with that 7 visit phenomenon.
Opt-ins are a brilliant and fun way to build trust and Leadpages offer the best in cutting edge squeeze page technology for about a dollar a day.
By the way, would you like to see more of what Leadpages can do to help you achieve your dreams like they did for me? The best way for me was to sign up for one of their 2 free weekly live webinars. You can reserve your spot here.
NOTE: What I liked the most is that you don't have to be one of their customers to gain immense benefit from what they teach.
For me, it all started in a conversation I had with a friend's son 3 years ago. He was back in school again.
He was in his early thirties and was one of the brightest people I know. What shocked me the most was that he had always been an ace in computers since his mid teens and I had expected him to make a great living at it for the rest of his life. His dad had told me that the young man had fallen on hard times for a while.
I hadn't seen him in a couple of years.
"Bob," I asked, "what's this I hear that you had gone back to school?"
He looked down sheepishly and said, "Yeah, I got that degree in computer science after high school and that got me a good job, but after a few years, they sent my job offshore and the recession had hit so I was out of work."
"I heard about that. A tough time for you and your young family."
Shaking his head, he chuckled and said, "Back to school I went. I got a bachelor's degree in business and thought that, what the heck, I might as well get a master's degree and, like an idiot, I did."
"So, what happened?" I asked.
The smile left his face. "I'm over qualified now. Nobody wants to hire someone with a great education."
had my full attention. I am in my mid 50's and have always worked for
the same large corporation and, lately, there have been rumblings about
lots of cutbacks and "right sizing". It sure would be nice to talk with someone who had learned how to work from home.
"What can you do now?"
His face brightened and he grinned from ear to ear.
"The answer to my problems was staring me in the face all these years. The internet is not just a search tool. It is a market place that is incredibly huge and rich and all you need to get free access to it is an internet connection."
I patted him gently on the shoulder and said, "That may be the way it is for you, Bob, but people like me can't do anything like that. I can do email and searches, but I don't know html or how search engines work and all that techie stuff. I doubt I could ever learn how to work from home."
"All that has been taken care of. Software now is so user friendly that anyone can learn how to work from home by building a business on the internet. You can still learn about html and search engine optimization if you want to, but it is by no means necessary."
I wasn't convinced. There had to be more to success on the web than some cute software.
I asked, "What about a product to sell? How much does it cost for advertising? You need customers. How do you find out what sells and what doesn't? In other words, what does it take to learn how to work from home successfully?"
He chuckled and gave me a friendly pat on the shoulder. He said, "Good software will show you how to get free traffic. You can become an affiliate marketer and not have to carry any inventory. It's all covered. All you have to bring to the table is about a dollar a day for the software , ambition and desire."
"You have to know what's hot on the market right now, I suppose?"
There was that grin again. "How to work from home means building on something you love like a hobby or something like that. The market is so huge that even a tiny interest like antique porcelain dolls or juggling can make it."
If an intelligent young man like this who knew me well thought I could make a go of it, then I figured I owed it to myself to look into it.
Like any business, you need prospective customers to come and visit. I have learned that there are many ways to get visitors to your site in my how to work from home experience.
The best is free. It is organic traffic from the search engines.
You can buy traffic (called pay-per-click or pay-per-lead or pay-per-activity) Better the free way :-)
They rarely buy the first visit so you have to figure a way to get them to come back over and over again. Wouldn't you know that somebody had already figured out the answer to this problem! You use email and go visit them with their permission. It's called email marketing.
You don't need a product. It is called affiliate marketing. You are almost like a commission salesman for just about any company that handles the products you are interested in showing on your site.
You can create your own products if you wish. To handle online transactions is a breeze with companies like Paypal.
It costs a lot of money to have inventory, shipping and so forth. With affiliate marketing, you don't have that concern. It is the perfect how to work from home solution.
No risk and you go at your own speed.
Work from home is too attractive a possibility to just gloss over.
Best of all, you can start part time. You can earn extra money from home while keeping your old job.
I found out that it takes time and effort and sometimes I would get discouraged. At those times, I would replay my conversation with Bob in my mind. If a young man can do it, so can an older person. After all, how much energy does it take to touch the keys on a keyboard?
Here are two important things I learned:
How to work from home nugget 1: These businesses run on autopilot and will keep earning for me even when I am old and in an old folks home.
How to work from home nugget 2: These businesses have value. You can pass them on to your beneficiaries when you pass on. You are building something with real value, not just fluff on a balance sheet.
Other Informative Articles:
Good work from home. I always thought that meant some sort of public service or charitable work. What it means is that you can build a good, solid life for yourself while being immensely useful to the internet and the millions of people who use it.
After all, what is a web site but a source of information? If you build on something you love, good work from home will mean answering people's questions without their asking them.
If you have a site on sewing, let's say, you will:
P.S. By the way, do you see what I mean about work from home? Do you see where this could lead? How much fun this could be while being incredibly useful to the people who come and visit?
Work from home is no longer just a dream. Anyone can do it. Anyone with ambition, that is. There need be no risk and costs are about the cost of a small cup of coffee at the drive through.
And, I can't wait to see what ambitious men like Bob and myself can accomplish!
